McCullough Lake Boat Launch Keys Available July 4, 2023

Residents of the Township of Chatsworth will be able to purchase a new lake key for the McCullough Lake boat launch at the Township office beginning Tuesday July 4, 2023 for $25.00. Township staff will be contacting individuals who purchased a key in 2022 to attend the Township office and receive the new key at no cost.

Municipal Open-Air Burn (Fire) Ban Lifted

Township of Chatsworth, June 15, 2023 – For Immediate Release

The fire ban, issued for the Township of Chatsworth on June 7, 2023, is now lifted.

The Township of Chatsworth Fire Chief would like to remind residents and visitors to the municipality, that an Open-Air Burn Permit is required for ALL open-air burns larger than 1 meter (39 inches) in diameter. The Fire Chief would also like to caution people to take care when burning as conditions are still favorable for grass fires, due to the amount of dead grass from the dry conditions over the past several weeks.

For more information on conducting an Open-Air Burn, the Township of Chatsworth Open Air Burning By-law and to apply for an Open-Air Burn Permit.

Township of Chatsworth Council Proclaims June 15, 2023 as World Elder Abuse Awareness Day

PROCLAMATION
World Elder Abuse Awareness Day
June 15, 2023

WHEREAS: Older adults in the Township of Chatsworth deserve to be treated with respect and
dignity and valued as contributing members of society, imparting a wealth of experience
and wisdom in our communities; and

WHEREAS: The International Network for the Prevention of Elder Abuse proclaimed this day to
recognize the significance of elder abuse as a public health and human rights issue; and

WHEREAS: The United Nations General Assembly officially recognized this day by resolution 66/127
in December 2011; and

WHEREAS: The Township of Chatsworth recognizes the importance of taking action to invest in
creating social change, to prioritize the prevention of elder abuse and raise awareness to
foster a better understanding of abuse and neglect of older adults and their rights; and

WHEREAS: Elder abuse has a significant impact on the lives of older adults and families; and is not
limited to race, gender, culture, or circumstance, and regardless of whether the abuse is
physical, emotional, sexual, financial or neglect; and

WHEREAS: Ageism and social isolation are major causes of elder abuse; and

WHEREAS: Recognizing that it is up to all of us, as citizens, organizations, communities, and
governments, to work collectively to prevent violence and abuse of older adults in their
homes and communities; and

WHEREAS: Preventing abuse of older adults through improving and maintaining social and health
services and systems such as housing, income security, and safety will improve their
quality of life and allow them to live independently and contribute to the vibrancy of our
municipality; and

WHEREAS: Where there is respect for human rights, equality, and justice there can be no abuse;
therefore, all residents of the Township of Chatsworth are urged to join this global movement to promote the Rights of Older Adults and Stop Abuse and Restore Respect.

THEREFORE; I, Scott Mackey, Mayor of the Township of Chatsworth in the Province of Ontario do
hereby proclaim June 15, 2023, as World Elder Abuse Awareness Day and encourage all
residents of the Township of Chatsworth to recognize and celebrate seniors and their
ongoing contributions to the success and vitality of our municipality.

Municipal Open Air Fire Ban In Affect

Municipal Open Air Burning (Fire) Ban Issued

Township of Chatsworth, June 7, 2023 – For Immediate Release

An Open-Air Burning ban has been issued for the Township of Chatsworth on Wednesday, June 7, 2023, and is in effect until further notice. This ban includes all open-air burning.
All issued Burn Permits are suspended at this time. Permits will be reinstated once the ban is lifted.
The Fire Ban includes campfires, agricultural burns, and open air burning of any kind.
This ban is issued under Municipal By –Law 2021-40, Sentence 2.3

“Notwithstanding the conditions in this By-law in which Open Air Burning is approved,
the Fire Chief or Chief Fire Official or designate, shall have the authority to issue a
burn ban under the conditions of drought, pandemic, state of emergency which would.
supersede all approvals to conduct Open Air Burning in accordance with this By-law.
The Chief Fire Official, should weather conditions or circumstances require such action, may issue a Total Fire Ban and no person shall set a fire or allow a fire to burn.”
